{pretty, happy, funny, real}: Lancaster County Day Trip Edition

round button chicken

My brother and his family and one of my aunts and uncles accompanied us to Lancaster County a few days ago. We went to Roots Auction, ate far too much at Shady Maple restaurant, and drove around the countryside for awhile. Some of us made our way to Hannah’s Quilts, at the farm of our amish acquaintance, Hannah Stolzfus, where my aunt bought a beautiful king-size pineapple motif quilt. The weather was perfect, the company was excellent, and I got to feel like a tourist in my own state again, which is always a treat.

Pretty

Local cherries are a beautiful sight.

Great shot by Samuel of growing corn and a “secret tunnel.”

Happy

I always feel happy when I think of families working together. The boys hopped down whenever a plant got uprooted or a rock turned up, dealt with the situation, and then hopped back on with their dad.
As much as I value families working together, I admit to feeling happy that I no longer have to make hay like these folks were doing. That was my growing up years — working on our farm. It was soooo good for me to grow up doing that, and I’m soooo glad I don’t have to do it anymore!!!

Funny

Am I the only one who thinks hot dogs are pretty funny when you think about them in a certain way?
I’m certain I’m not the only one who finds this guy funny!

Real

The gridlock is real at Roots Auction when you are miles from Shady Maple restaurant and your tummy is rumbling. Ah well, I’m sure an hour in traffic made the food taste that much better, and at least I wasn’t putting hay in the barn…
