{pretty, happy, funny, real}: In the Garden

Pretty

Forget-me-nots have self-seeded themselves for several years in this little bed on the north side of our house. They are surely some of the most cheerful flowers on God’s good earth.

Happy

I am so happy to see this shrub thriving and showing off its fancy new spring leaf-duds. Or maybe its new hairstyle. This is Acer japonicum or Full-moon Maple.

Funny

See the two white markers on the right? Those are to mark the lettuce seeds I sowed right around them. See the little sprouts over on the left? Those are the seeds. I may have discovered a new lettuce strain — I’ll call it Mysteriously Migrating Mesclun.

Real

This old girl has been in decline for the last several years and the powers-that-be decided last Autumn that a Lilac Rejuvenation Prune-to-Ground Operation would be enacted just after this spring’s bloom period.

Naturally, the thing is blooming its head off this year. I mean to say! Still, we will proceed. It will look forlorn for a few years, but it should be better than ever after that.

What is beautiful in your world this week?
